The Reality of Running Your Own Business: Busy Seasons, Burnout & Balance

The past few weeks at The Blooming Brand Co have been some of the busiest yet! And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
From signing new clients and creating more content than ever before, to attending courses, planning strategy sessions, designing websites, editing late into the night, and travelling to the Balmoral Show for networking and client content… it’s been completely non-stop and I Love it... But!
When you run your own business, there’s always something happening behind the scenes that people don’t see. The emails, the messages across every platform, the constant planning, creating, organising, editing, and problem solving. As self employed business owners, we wear every hat imaginable, and while that can be incredibly rewarding, it can also become overwhelming very quickly.
One thing these past few weeks have reminded me of is this: business never truly stops.
There will always be another notification waiting, another client enquiry to respond to, another task to tick off the list. In today’s world, we are more connected and available than ever before, and sometimes it can feel impossible to fully switch off.
But while attending the Balmoral Show recently for work and networking, I also made time to simply enjoy the experience. Spending time with my best friend and her daughter, laughing in the rain, jumping in puddles, walking around the stalls, and taking a moment away from the constant notifications reminded me how important it is to pause every now and again.
Because the truth is... burnout is real.
When you spend every day in “work mode,” constantly communicating, creating, and trying to keep up with everything, eventually it catches up with you. And as passionate as we are about our businesses, we cannot pour from an empty cup.
Taking time for yourself doesn’t mean you’re falling behind. It doesn’t mean you’re less dedicated or less ambitious. In fact, stepping away for a few hours can often give you the clarity, creativity, and energy you need to come back even stronger.
I am incredibly grateful every single day for the opportunity to run my own business, create my own schedule, and work alongside amazing clients doing what I genuinely love. But I’m also learning that success isn’t just about staying busy... it’s about finding balance within the busy seasons too.
So this is your reminder, especially if you’re self employed or building something of your own:take the break, make the memories, step away from the screen sometimes.
Your mind, your body, and ultimately your business will thank you for it. 🤍
